Midnight Leirvik

Leirvik, Norway

We had our first bicycle trip to the REMA 1000 grocery store today in the sideways blowing rain. By the time we got to the store, my jeans were completely soaked so I bought some waterproof rain pants shortly after our grocery stop. I was able to use my first Norwegian too: “Kan du snakke engelsk?” which means “Can you speak English?” I found that the employee at the sports store was very good at speaking English and helped us find some rain pants quickly.

After we returned, we were treated by our hosts, Davide, Maiju and their son Christopher to a dinner of delicious authentic Italian pizza with gelato for dessert (Davide is from Italy). After dinner, we helped Davide pick up his Miata from the shop and then went out for a photo excursion until about 1 AM.

This photograph is a long (4 minute) exposure from the docks in the town center of Leirvik. The large ship is one of a couple of fishing vessels that was at port for the night. Davide and Maiju’s sailboat is just at the end of the dock.
